I used to think in order to reach my health goal, I had to SACRIFICE or DEPRIVE myself of something. That could be đŤđ°đĽđđđ§ or even just enjoying food.
When I had that mindset, food became purely fuel â˝, and not something to enjoy.
I created a toxic notion that âif it tastes good, itâs not good or healthy for youâ. It took months to get out of.
After learning more about nutrition, health, and fitness and how they link together, it occurred to me, I did NOT have to be so strict with myselfđ đťââď¸. If anything, being super STRICT did more harm than good.
So instead of being đŻ âgood and/or cleanâ, Iâd aim to eat nutrition-dense whole foods on most meals, and if đđ° is on the menu in that meal, I'd
đđť Honour the craving This meant giving oneself grace to eat what I was craving. Bonus tipđĽ: If you're concerned at not being able to stop yourself, you can pre-portion your treat beforehand so you can be sure to not eat the whole packet in one go.
đ¤ Tell myself I donât have to finish all of it in one go Sometimes our đ§ are in a scarcity mode where we think we HAVE to finish it now or we can't enjoy it later. This made a huge difference to my eating pattern after I started practicing this.
đ¤ Be mindful of my hunger cues I've gotten so lost in thought before that I didn't even pay attention to what I was eating, much less how much of it I was eating until I was crazy full. So once I started being present when I ate, I found that I actually ate a lot less than before.
With practice and time, I now LOVE and ENJOY food again! Whatâs more, Iâm happy to say Iâm still on track with my health and fitness goals.đŻ
